How to Fix a Garbage Disposal
A clogged garbage disposal can cause a multitude of problems, like water backing up on both sides of your sink. If you have this problem on your hands and want to know how to fix a garbage disposal, try this simple method before you call us at David Leroy Plumbing.
The Baking Soda-Vinegar Approach
With a box of baking soda and white vinegar, you can learn how to fix a garbage disposal with minor clogs. To start, take the box of baking soda and pour a good amount down the side where the disposal is located, and then a little bit down the drain on the other side of your sink. Then, take the bottle of white vinegar and pour some down both sides of the drain like you did the baking soda. Give this baking soda-vinegar mixture about 30 minutes to sit and then pour a pot of boiling hot water from your stove down both sides of the sink.
After you do this and your sink is unclogged, an unpleasant odor may fill your kitchen as a result of the clog. Try running a small amount of bleach down your sink drain or cutting up a few oranges or lemons and then running the rinds through the disposal.
